It is best known for the Caroni Arena Dam, the largest water reservoir in the country, as well as it's beautiful lush Tropical rain forest and as being the site if The Arena Massacre . The Arena Massacre took place on December 1st 1699 when the Amerindians rose up in revolt killing Roman Catholic priests and desecrating the Catholic church. The actual site of the massacre is a few feet away from the circle site. Conditions This run should be around ninety minutes for the front pack and a bit longer for the slower ones and walkers. The terrain is quite flat with very little elevation gain and has some variation, changing from lush Tropical rain forest to sandy areas, beautiful pine forest and back to rain forest. Something for everyone You will be astonished by the sheer beauty and peaceful nature of the area, mere minutes from the hustle and bustle of the nearby village.
